Darlington Orji, an aide to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has insisted that the ongoing impeachment move against his principal will ultimately fail.

Orji said the process is bound to collapse because the allegations of gross misconduct and financial misappropriation levelled against Governor Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly are unfounded.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, the governor’s aide argued that there is no substance to the claims and that the Assembly itself would struggle to justify the accusations.

“I can tell you for free that this process will not scale through because there is no truth in it,” Orji said.

He added that several impeachment attempts in Nigeria have been overturned or ignored by courts due to failure to follow due process.

“You will also agree with me that many courts in this country have disregarded impeachment processes because laid-down procedures were not followed,” he stated.

Orji, who said he is not a member of the Assembly, claimed to be in close contact with some lawmakers and suggested that even within the House, there is discomfort over the impeachment move.

“This process, they are not happy with what they are doing. I am sure that before the end of the day or within the coming week, this whole process will be put to rest,” he said.

The aide maintained that Governor Fubara remains confident and focused on governance, insisting that the impeachment effort lacks both legal and factual grounding.
