Abia High Court Restrains Police, Others from Harassing, Intimidating Event Planner Gift Sopuruchi Aaron

The High Court of Abia State, sitting at Obehie in the Ukwa Judicial Division, has issued an interim restraining order against the Nigeria Police Force and other respondents in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by an event planner Gift Sopuruchi Aaron.

The order was granted by Hon. Justice L.T.C. Eruba on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in Suit No: HUK/4M/2026, following an ex parte application brought pursuant to the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules, 2009.

Gift Sopuruchi Aaron, an event planner, is said to have planned a wedding ceremony in Owerri, Imo State between Mr Chidi Anyaso and Jessica anyaso after which a dispute arose between her and the couple .The disagreement later spilled into the public space, with the couple allegedly engaging a blogger, Oni Foto, to publish claims about the event planner on social media, disclosing her bank details and other personal information without her consent .

Listed as respondents in the suit are the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9, the Commissioners of Police in Abia and Imo States, alongside other named individuals.

In its interim ruling, the court restrained the respondents, either by themselves or through their agents, from further harassment, intimidation, arrest, or detention of the applicant pending the determination of the substantive motion for the enforcement of her fundamental rights.

The court further restrained the 8th, 9th, and 10th respondents from making any further social media publications or disseminating information considered false in respect of the contractual dispute involving Exquizite Events Limited, which forms part of the issues now before the court.

The court also barred the 10th respondent from publishing or circulating any facts or claims relating to the applicant without her consent, noting that the matter has become subject to judicial determination.

Justice Eruba granted leave for substituted service of court processes on some of the respondents through electronic means, including WhatsApp and Facebook, as well as by courier service.

The matter has been adjourned to February 10, 2026, for hearing of the substantive application.

The order was issued under the seal of the High Court of Abia State.
