…Says Politics Has Its Time, As He Inspects Ongoing Projects Across The FCT

The Hon. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has said that political activities for the upcoming general elections would slow down the pace of work in the nation’s capital.

Barr. Wike stated this in Abuja on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, while briefing journalists shortly after a routine inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital.

Fielding questions on the possibility of political distractions, Barr. Wike emphasized that service delivery remains the priority of the current administration, asserting that he is committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda and infrastructural goals of the FCT Administration.

The Minister said, “Politics is different, you have to serve the people. Politics has its own time. The work will continue to go on. Politics is not going to affect it. If you say so, the Area Council elections are coming up in the next few weeks. Are we not doing our work? It doesn’t affect us. What is important is for us to pay the contractor…From time to time too, we will come and see by ourselves. So, the politics of 2027 will not affect our job. The only way it will affect is that people will be happy and see that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real”.

Barr. Wike also provided updates on the projects inspected, including the Collector Road C01 within the Institute and Research District which links Baze University, Body of Benchers, Nile University and the Wupa Train Station of the Abuja Light rail, the Annex building of the Body of Benchers and the access road from the Bill Clinton Drive to Tungan Madaki community.

He said significant progress has been made on the Collector Road C01, adding that the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has also committed to a May 2026 completion date, positioning the project for inauguration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third year anniversary.

The Minister further stated that the Body of Benchers Annex Building was also currently 80 per cent complete and expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of work.

On the access road to Tungan Madaki from Bill Clinton Drive, the Minister explained that the 7-kilometer road, which features a four-span bridge, was conceived as part of a compensation agreement for the second runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, adding that the project is scheduled for handover in the second week of June 2026.

In a move to further improve connectivity, Barr. Wike announced that he has directed the Executive Secretary of the FCDA to coordinate with CCECC on a design to extend the Tungan Madaki access road to link up with the Zuba road in order to open up the area.

“We are opening up other areas. You can imagine what the people here suffer during the rainy season; it’s unimaginable.

“I have directed the Executive Secretary to liaise with the company, CCECC, to see how we can link it up to Zuba road. I’ve directed them to bring the design and that again is about 7 kilometers. There is nothing we cannot do as far as this administration is concerned to give the people what they deserve, the best”, the Minister stressed.
