The family of veteran actor Pete Edochie has contacted the Department of State Services over a viral video falsely announcing his death.
The move followed the circulation of rumours on social media claiming that the legendary actor had died, reports that were swiftly debunked by both his family and management.
Pete Edochie’s first son, Leo Edochie earlier dismissed the report in a viral video shared on his Instagram page, describing the claim as “a lie from the pit of hell.”
In a subsequent Facebook post on Thursday evening, Leo disclosed that he had formally reached out to the DSS to secure the arrest of the TikTok user who originated the false report. He also announced a cash reward for anyone who provides information that would aid the suspect’s arrest.
Sharing a photograph of the individual, Leo wrote, “This young man posted a video on tiktok that our father is dead. His handle is @ONE_BOR 001.
“Anyone with information that will lead to his arrest will be handsomely rewarded in cash. I have contacted DSS and they are on his trail.
“DM me with the information, as soon as he is arrested, you will get your reward in cash.”
The family’s action underscores growing concern over the spread of false information on social media and its potential impact on individuals and their families.
