The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has condemned remarks attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the forthcoming council elections.
In a statement issued by its National Spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described Wike’s alleged declaration of war against anti Tinubu candidates as reckless and inflammatory.
The ADC cautioned that such rhetoric could heighten political tensions and weaken democratic stability, stressing that it is the Nigerian electorate, not President Bola Tinubu or any public office holder, that will determine the outcome of the February 21, 2026 elections.
The party further alleged that Wike and the All Progressives Congress, APC, are attempting to intimidate voters, arguing that such actions suggest anxiety over waning popularity.
It vowed to resist any attempt to subvert the will of Nigerians through lawful and constitutional means.
“The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has taken note of the deeply troubling statement credited to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as reported by several news outlets.
“We consider the Minister’s declaration of “war” against so called anti Tinubu candidates not only irresponsible, but dangerous in the current fragile atmosphere of our nation.
“At a time when Nigerians are grappling with unprecedented economic hardship, insecurity, and deep political distrust, the last thing the country needs is inflammatory rhetoric from those entrusted with public office,” the statement partly read.
