A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the recently concluded FCT Area Council elections were conducted under an unknown law.
Okonkwo made the claim on Monday while speaking on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.
He was reacting to the FCT Area Council polls in which the All Progressives Congress, APC, won five out of the six Area Councils.
According to him, Nigerians should not be distracted by the outcome of the election, insisting that the legal framework guiding the exercise remains unclear.
“Nigerians should not be carried away by what this dubious APC is doing. Up till now, the gazetted copy of the Electoral Act 2026 is not out.
“APC is intentionally hiding everything so that Nigerians do not even understand until it is too late.
“The FCT election was conducted under an unknown law. And this is against the rule of law. Before you implement a law on the people, it must be publicly published,” he said.
Okonkwo maintained that implementing a law that has not been publicly gazetted undermines the rule of law and transparency in the electoral process.
