Confusion broke out on Saturday during the congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State after members of the congress committee announced two different individuals as the party’s consensus chairman.

The incident reportedly began when a member of the congress committee declared Victor Samuel Falack as the consensus chairman of the party in the state.

Delegates and party members present at the venue applauded and affirmed Falack’s nomination, believing that the process had been concluded.

However, the situation changed moments later when another member of the committee, said to have arrived from Abuja, interrupted the proceedings and announced a different individual as the chairman of the party.

The development caused confusion among party members, many of whom demanded clarification from the congress committee.

The announcement sparked heated arguments among delegates and supporters, with several members insisting that Falack had already been endorsed as the consensus candidate.

The disagreement later escalated as some aggrieved members reportedly walked out of the congress venue in protest, chanting slogans and insisting that the earlier declaration of Falack be respected.

Some party members also described the newly announced chairman as unknown within the party structure in the state and accused the committee of attempting to impose a candidate on them.

Attempts by party officials to calm the situation were unsuccessful as tensions remained high among supporters.

As of the time of the report, the outcome of the congress remained unclear, with party members calling on the national leadership of the PDP to intervene and clarify the conflicting announcements.
