Sule Lamido, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged party members to accept the caretaker committee proposal associated with Nyesom Wike.

Lamido called on PDP members to prioritise reconciliation and unity in order to rebuild the party.

He made the appeal while speaking with journalists during a Ramadan Iftar event attended by PDP officials and members in Bamaina, his hometown in Jigawa State.

The former governor described Wike as a politically strategic figure who took advantage of the leadership vacuum that emerged after the tenure of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) expired.

According to Lamido, Wike moved quickly to establish a caretaker structure at a time when the party lacked a functioning national leadership.

“Wike is someone who is really, really clever. I think he realised everything and managed to form a caretaker committee. By the time the existing NWC term ended, the only structure in place was the one backed by Wike,” he said.

Lamido acknowledged that disagreements exist within the party but stressed the need for dialogue among all key stakeholders.

He urged PDP members to engage with Wike and other party leaders in the spirit of reconciliation and unity.

“Even though many people might not like Wike or may disagree with him, we should still invite him in the spirit of Nigeria, in the spirit of brotherhood and PDP unity, and in the spirit of reconciliation,” he said.
