Bayer Leverkusen manager Kasper Hjulmand has identified Arsenal and Bayern Munich as the leading contenders to win the UEFA Champions League this season.
Hjulmand made the remarks during his post match interview after Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16 second leg clash at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
The result sees Arsenal advance to the quarter finals, where they will face Sporting CP. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are in a strong position to qualify for the last eight following their 6-1 first leg victory over Atalanta last week.
“Yeah, I think they could,” Hjulmand said when asked if Arsenal can go on to win the Champions League this season.
“You can see in the Premier League as well, their lead, the fewest goals against them, the highest number of goals scored, so it’s not a coincidence.
“But I also think Bayern. Bayern is a very different type of game. They do it differently, Bayern, and they are a very, very high level. I would say it’s head to head.”
