A prominent political figure from Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Prince Mayor Ukaegbu, has formally reaffirmed his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring his intention to advance a new political direction anchored on grassroots mobilization.

In a press statement addressed to the people of Umuahia Central Constituency on Thursday 19th March 2026, Ukaegbu disclosed that he officially exited the PDP on May 1, 2024, marking what appears to be a significant shift in his political trajectory.

The former PDP aspirant for the Umuahia Central State Constituency seat in 2023 expressed deep appreciation to his supporters and political associates, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to what he described as a “shared movement and mission” under the Nwachinaemere Grassroots Movement (NGM).

“I remain deeply grateful to all my supporters and well-wishers for your unwavering dedication and commitment to our shared movement and political mission,” he stated, emphasizing that their support continues to inspire the collective resolve of the group.

Ukaegbu hinted at an emerging political structure outside the PDP, noting that the coming weeks would reveal clearer details about the next phase of his political engagement. According to him, the focus will be on strengthening grassroots participation and delivering people-oriented leadership.

“In the coming weeks, I will outline the next steps as we continue to strengthen our movement and advance our political mission for the progress, unity, and well-being of our people,” he said.

Political observers interpret his statement as a strategic repositioning ahead of future electoral contests, particularly within Umuahia Central Constituency, where his grassroots influence has been steadily growing.

The Nwachinaemere Grassroots Movement, which he founded, appears to be central to this evolving political direction, signaling a shift from party-based politics to a more movement-driven engagement model.

Ukaegbu concluded his message by thanking his supporters for their continued trust and reaffirming his commitment to providing “quality and dedicated representation” for his people.
