The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Abia State, Don Norman Obinna, has expressed concern that low membership registration in the South East could affect the chances of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, securing the party’s presidential ticket.

Obinna called on party members in Abia State and supporters of Obi across the South East to take part in the ongoing online registration exercise, stressing that increased participation is critical to strengthening Obi’s prospects.

He made the appeal on Saturday in Umuahia while speaking as a special guest at the inauguration of executive members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy, COPDEM, in Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Local Government Areas.

According to the ADC chairman, Obi may struggle to emerge victorious in the party’s presidential primary if he does not secure a significant number of votes.

Obinna expressed concern over the current registration figures, noting that Abia State has recorded about 400,000 registered members, while Adamawa State is approaching one million.

“It is not just about wanting Peter Obi to be President, the question should be how do we deliver Peter Obi.

“Even the ADC online registration, Abia is about 400,000 in the chart while Adamawa is about 1 million. If the primary election is conducted today, will Peter Obi win, that is my question,” he said.

He urged members of COPDEM and the ADC to intensify sensitization efforts, while advocating for good governance and quality leadership.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of COPDEM in Abia State, Prince Solomon, alongside a House of Representatives aspirant for Ikwuano Umuahia Federal Constituency, Ogbonna Abarikwu, called on Nigerians to reject poor leadership.
