The Kano State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has abandoned the symbolic red cap associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, clarified that there has been no directive instructing supporters to stop wearing the traditional red and white attire linked to the political movement.

The clarification followed public speculation after the governor was seen without the red cap during a recent political event in Yola, Adamawa State, where he appeared alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and other prominent figures.

The development had fueled suggestions of a possible rift between Yusuf and his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who leads the Kwankwasiyya movement known for its distinctive white attire and red caps.

However, addressing the claims in a post on his Facebook page, Tofa explained that the Yola event had a specific dress code and did not reflect any shift in political alignment.

He wrote: “There has been no directive to remove the red cap. The trip to Yola in Adamawa State was a special event where important people wore a specific type of clothing. Everything has its time.”
