The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Felix Morka, has advised aspirants seeking positions at the party’s forthcoming national convention to carefully review the guidelines before making any payments for nomination forms.
Morka gave the advice on Wednesday while responding to questions during an interview on Arise Television.
He explained that the party had already made public the necessary information and guidelines, including designated account details, stressing that payments made by aspirants were done at their own discretion.
According to him, payment for nomination forms alone does not guarantee eligibility to contest for any position.
The development follows complaints by some APC aspirants who alleged difficulties in obtaining nomination forms despite making payments and meeting stipulated requirements.
Reacting to the concerns, Morka said, “Party members should read the guidelines before making payments. Every individual who paid money chose to do so and when they paid that money, they are presumed to already be fully aware and conscious of all the rules that apply.
“We are the largest party in this country and maybe on the continent. So when you gather so many people together to pass through a narrow process of selection of those who govern the party, you are almost necessarily bound to have disagreements.
“Our Congress is governed by rules, by guidelines, by the party’s constitution. So it means that when we put out a call for expression of interest for people to compete for available positions, they are required to follow laid down procedures of the party.
“Because what I hear is that people said they paid money. Yes, that’s true. That was prescribed for setting the office that perhaps they are seeking to contest but paying money is not enough. There’s also the zoning formula,” he said.
