The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of abandoning governance in pursuit of political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party alleged that the governor has relegated his responsibilities, focusing more on political activities than addressing pressing issues in the state.
The allegations were contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Wasiu Olawale Sadare.
According to the party, several critical matters requiring the governor’s attention have been neglected due to his absence from governance.
Sadare claimed that recent incidents involving security breaches, waste management challenges and road accidents demanded urgent intervention from the governor, but he was unavailable.
The party further urged the governor to prioritize governance and address the needs of the people rather than engaging in political maneuvering.
“This alarm might have come against the backdrop of some developments in the state in recent times such as challenges of insecurity, waste management, avoidable loss of lives to road mishaps, among others which political pundits and public affairs analysts believed should have received better attention from the Oyo state government
“Last Tuesday; many lives of Ibadan residents were lost to road accident at Oje market and a few hours later, Gov. Makinde gathered his supporters to discuss 2027 politics and they all agreed to a date to leave the sinking ship (PDP). The following day when residents were mourning in grief, Gov. Makinde decided to celebrate his reckless spending of the tax payers money on the purchase of brand new cars for the inefficient elected council officials and illegal party officials,” the statement read.
