The Umunneochi Local Government Chapter of the Dr. Alex Otti Ambassadors has unanimously endorsed the re-election of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for a second term in office, citing satisfaction with his performance and governance strides.

The endorsement formed part of key resolutions reached during a strategic meeting of the group held at Apollo Villa in Umunneochi on March 25, 2026.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, members of the group commended the governor’s leadership style and developmental efforts across Abia State, pledging their commitment to mobilize support at the grassroots level to ensure his victory in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

In a significant political development, Hon. Sopuruchukwu Igwe a former Leader of the Umunneochi Legislative Council formally declared his intention to contest for the Umunneochi State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly in the 2027 general elections.

Hon. Igwe, who hails from Umuchieze in Umunneochi LGA, anchored his ambition on the principles of equity and fairness. He noted that the Umuchieze zone has yet to produce a representative in the State Assembly, unlike other zones such as Nneato, which currently holds the position.

The declaration aligns with recommendations from a five-man committee earlier constituted by Umunneochi party stakeholders to review the zoning arrangement for the House of Assembly seat. The committee had proposed a rotational system among the zones within the local government area to ensure inclusiveness and balanced representation.

The group also resolved to strengthen internal accountability, stating that any leader found inactive or failing in their responsibilities would be replaced to enhance efficiency within the organization.

Furthermore, members emphasized the need for intensified grassroots mobilization. They called on all members of the Labour Party, as well as prospective members, to participate actively in the ongoing party e-registration exercise as part of efforts to consolidate the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
