Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not constitute anti party activity despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Fayose made the remarks while emphasizing the importance of national interest over party loyalty, noting that differing political positions are a normal aspect of democratic practice.
He spoke on Sunday at the PDP national convention in Abuja.
“Nigeria is for all of us, you are first an Ekiti man before you become a political party card bearer. All the former governors are behind the current governor,” he said.
He also referenced global political dynamics to support his stance.
“Obama is not supporting the Democrats, the former president is not supporting Trump, have they expelled them? No, democracy will have those differences on national issues,” he stated.
Fayose further argued that leadership support should be based on competence rather than party affiliation.
“We must not say because it’s our party member that must win when we know our party member has no capacity. Would you compare a Makinde with an Asiwaju?” he queried.
