President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held separate closed door meetings with former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and former Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Details of the meetings have not been disclosed.
Badaru, a former governor of Jigawa State and ex Minister of Defence, has been engaged in a political dispute with Governor Umar Namadi over the structure of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The disagreement reportedly led to the removal of Badaru’s nominee, Bashir Gumel, as the party’s National Financial Secretary, with Governor Namadi backing a different candidate for the position.
Badaru has also been linked with a possible defection to the African Democratic Congress, although he has publicly denied any intention to leave the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Ganduje is expected to remain within the APC, as the former governor and former National Chairman of the party is not considering a move to the ADC coalition.
He is also reportedly involved in consultations regarding the nomination of a new deputy governor of Kano State following the resignation of Aminu Gwarzo. His preferred candidate is said to be Murtala Garo, although there are indications that the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibrin Fagge, may also be interested in the position.
