President Donald Trump of the United States has stated that the US will not engage in a war to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump indicated that the US would be stepping back from its involvement in Iran within “two or three weeks,” adding that nations relying on the Strait would be responsible for ensuring its accessibility.

He said on Tuesday that US forces would conclude operations in Iran “very soon.”

The remarks followed recurring claims about “regime change” and assertions regarding the extent of Iran’s military capabilities that the US has “knocked out.”

“Now we’re finishing the job. I believe in about two weeks, or maybe a few days more, we’ll finish the job. We want to take out all of their weapons and capabilities,” he said.

Trump further emphasized that maintaining access to the Strait of Hormuz would not be the responsibility of the United States.

“That’s not our responsibility … That will be handled by whoever is using the strait,” the President added.

The ongoing standoff involving the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other has now entered its fifth week.
