The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, on Thursday briefed journalists on the Command’s recent operational successes, detailing a series of arrests and recoveries linked to violent crimes and other criminal activities across the state.
Addressing the press, the CP disclosed that operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended multiple suspects involved in offences ranging from armed robbery and murder to unlawful possession of firearms, child stealing, and defilement. He noted that in one of the operations, two suspects were arrested in Umuahia while conducting illegal stop-and-search operations with intent to rob motorists, leading to the recovery of four locally made firearms and live cartridges.
The Police boss further revealed that a joint operation involving divisional headquarters in Igbere, Bende, and Uzuakoli led to the arrest of four suspects at a criminal hideout, where expended cartridges, local gunpowder, tramadol, and substances suspected to be hard drugs were recovered. According to him, the suspects have been charged to court and remanded.
On crimes involving violence against persons, CP Isa confirmed the arrest of a suspect for the defilement of a 13-year-old girl, noting that the victim was threatened with a knife during the incident. He added that the suspect has confessed and is currently facing prosecution, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices. He also disclosed the arrest of two suspects linked to the theft of a two-week-old baby in Obingwa, with investigations ongoing to recover the child.
The Commissioner also highlighted arrests connected to murder cases in Umuahia and Arochukwu, as well as other operations targeting armed robbery, house breaking, cult-related clashes, and criminal conspiracy. Several exhibits, including firearms, ammunition, stolen items, and other incriminating materials, were recovered during the operations.
In another breakthrough, CP Isa announced the recovery of a stolen tricycle in Umuahia through intelligence-led tracking, while 14 suspects were arrested in Uturu for attacking a student lodge, damaging property, and stealing mobile phones.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, CP Isa stated that the operations align with the mandate of the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring the safety of lives and property. He called on residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
The Police boss also presented Cheques valued at 11.9 Million Naira to families of deceased officers of the command.
The Commissioner assured the people of Abia State of the Command’s sustained professionalism and dedication to maintaining law and order across the state.
