The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescue of 31 worshippers abducted during an Easter service attack in Kaduna State.

According to a statement released on its official X handle, the incident occurred at an ECWA Church in Ariko Village, located in Kachia Local Government Area.

The Army said troops responded swiftly after receiving a distress call reporting the abduction during the church service.

With support from members of the Ariko community, security forces pursued the attackers and engaged them in a fierce firefight, eventually overwhelming them.

The pressure from advancing troops forced the attackers to abandon 31 hostages, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical attention.

However, the Army disclosed that the remains of five victims killed by the attackers were also recovered at the scene.

“The fleeing terrorists are believed to have sustained significant casualties, as evidenced by blood trails along their escape routes,” the statement said.

The Nigerian Army added that troops have intensified operations to track down the fleeing attackers and rescue any remaining captives.

Additional personnel have also been deployed to strengthen security presence in the area and prevent further attacks.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining the territorial integrity of Nigeria, while urging the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
