Liverpool manager Arne Slot has explained why Mohamed Salah was left on the bench during his side’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarter final first leg.

Salah was not included in the starting lineup and remained unused throughout the match at the Parc des Princes.

PSG secured the victory with goals from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, putting them in a strong position ahead of the return leg.

Speaking after the match, Slot said the decision was tactical, noting that the closing stages of the game required defensive resilience rather than attacking changes.

“I think in the last part of the game, it was more about surviving for us than there was ever a chance that we could score.

“And Mo has so much quality, but for Mo to be 20, 25 minutes defending inside his own box, I think it’s better for him to save his energy for a lot of games that are coming up in the upcoming weeks,” he said.
