What can best be described as the “crème de la crème” of the Ngwa nation converged on Nenu town in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State on Friday, April 10, 2026, to bid farewell to Late Ezeji Luke Aliga, who passed on at the remarkable age of 102.
The burial ceremony attracted a high-powered assembly of political leaders, captains of industry including foreign partners, traditional rulers, top-ranking military and paramilitary officers, and members of the United Evangelical Church, reflecting the far-reaching influence and legacy of the deceased.
In his tribute, the immediate past Governor of Abia State and current Nigerian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Okezie Ikpeazu, described Pa Aliga as a man whose philanthropy and wise counsel left indelible marks on countless lives.
He noted that the late patriarch was “a man of remarkable stature and substance,” whose life exemplified selfless service, principled leadership, entrepreneurial excellence, agricultural commitment, deep Christian faith, and unwavering dedication to community development.
Delivering the sermon, the officiating minister and Chairman of Conference (COC), United Evangelical Church, Daniel Anjorin, gave thanks to God for the glowing testimonies about the life of Pa Aliga. He urged attendees to emulate a life of righteousness and impact while on earth.
Speaking at the event, the immediate past South-East representative at the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Nyerere Anyim, commended the unity displayed across political divides.
“Politics is just a relative term; our brotherhood (Amala) is older than politics. When something requires brotherhood, only a fool will avoid it because of politics,” he stated.
Also speaking, former Deputy Governor of Abia State and current National Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors, Chris Akomas, expressed gratitude to God for the long and fulfilled life of the deceased.
“We are grateful to God for granting Papa Luke this number of years. He lived a peaceful, fulfilled life, and it is rare to find anyone who had issues with him,” Akomas said.
A chieftain of the APC and former Commissioner for Finance in Abia State, Obinna Oriaku, condoled with the Aliga family while also congratulating them for the impactful and fulfilled life their patriarch lived.
In an emotional remark, the Chief Mourner, Elder Raymond Aliga, described his late father as more than a parent.
“He was not just my father; he was my friend and my man. His strength gave me courage, and his kindness and generosity inspired me to be a better person in life,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Service of Songs held on Thursday turned into a vibrant celebration of life, drawing large crowds in what many described as a carnival-like atmosphere.
Renowned gospel music ministers, Shama Melody and Chinyere Udoma, electrified Nenu with powerful sessions of praise and worship.
Late Pa Luke Aliga is survived by his wife, eight children, grandchildren, and a legacy of integrity, service, and community impact that will be remembered for generations.
