The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed judgment in a suit seeking to stop David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from parading themselves as National Chairman and Secretary of the African Democratic Congress to April 14.

The ruling, initially scheduled for April 13, was adjourned by Justice Musa Suleiman Liman due to other official engagements.

The case was instituted by Kogi State lawmaker, Hon. Leke Abejide, who is challenging the legitimacy of the current leadership structure of the party.

In the suit, Abejide is seeking to nullify the transfer of leadership from former chairman Ralph Nwosu to Mark and Aregbesola, describing the process as unlawful and void. He also requested a perpetual injunction restraining both men from presenting themselves as party leaders, as well as an order barring the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognizing them.

The defendants, including the party, Nwosu, Mark, Aregbesola, and the electoral body, have all urged the court to dismiss the case. They argued that the matter concerns internal party affairs, which are not subject to judicial intervention, and questioned Abejide’s legal standing to file the suit.

They further maintained that the leadership in question emerged from a National Executive Committee meeting held on July 29, 2025, rather than the date cited by the plaintiff, and described the case as lacking merit.
