Eligible voters who had turned out in most parts of Rivers State on Saturday to vote for candidates of their choices in the presidential and national assembly elections went home at the close of the exercise with mixed feelings.
While accreditation began as early as 8:30am in some polling units, places such as Rumuokoro and Igwuruta in the Ikwerre Local Government Area, did not start the exercise until 11:00am with many voters returning home without performing their civic rights.
In some polling units in Ibadan Street in the Churchill area of Port Harcourt, though accreditation took place, voting materials did not arrive until the close of polls at a few minutes past 5:00pm.
Impatient voters at some of the polling units visited within the Port Harcourt Local Government Area were seen shouting at INEC officials after card readers failed to function properly in many of such places. It was the same scenario in pockets of units in Omagwa and Isiokpor, both in Ikwerre land, where polling officers resulted to manually accrediting eligible voters.
