On Monday a group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives, the Progressives of the Peoples Democratic Party, named three persons for consideration as running mate to PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
The lawmakers met in Abuja to consider the option of recommending Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as the Vice Presidential candidate.
Others being considered by the lawmakers are Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and former Enugu State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani.
Anyim and Wike contested the PDP presidential primary but lost to Atiku.
The meeting, called at the instance of the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Busayo Oluwole Oke, was to consider only Wike but other names were suggested.
It was learnt that the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Iduma Igariwey, and his Aviation counterpart Nnolim Nnaji suggested other candidates before a final decision would be taken and conveyed to Atiku for endorsement.
While Igariwey and other caucus members from Ebonyi State made a case for Senator Anyim, a lawmaker, Nnolim Nnaji and members from Enugu were said to have made a strong case for Nnamani and Ugwuanyi.
Oke said the discussion came ahead of the deadline to submit the names of their presidential and vice presidential candidates.
He said the lawmakers, comprising committed party faithful across the six geo-political zones in the Green Chamber, resolved to endorse a formidable candidate based on their contributions to the party’s growth.
It was also gathered that the PDP leadership has also set up a high-powered committee to select a suitable candidate for VP.
