Borno State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, has on Wednesday took delivery of assorted food and relief items to thousands of Internally Displaced Persons from 32 communities and local settlements which were attacked and ransacked by members of dreaded Boko Haram Sect.
The ransacking, destruction of houses and property by the insurgents took place last week end in communities of Jere Local Government Area of the state, in which, thousands of residents were displaced and currently taking refuge at a temporary make- shift camp in relatively peaceful Tungushe village, few kilometres away from Maiduguri Metropolis.
Engineer Ahmed Satomi who is the Chairman SEMA in an interview with our Correspondent yesterday regretted the renewed attacks and sacking of communities by Boko Haram sect.
He explained that, SEMA with support from Governor Kashim Shettima, Security agencies and other humanitarian partners are in top of the situation in addressing the immediate needs of the displaced people in the state. His words: “Right now, i have mobilized my officials with trucks of relief items to be conveyed to Tungushe Temporary Camp for immediate distribution to victims.
“I will personally lead the rescue team to Tungushe IDPs Camp, we are taking delivery of relief items which comprised assorted bags of rice, masavita flour, sphaghetti, soaps and detergents, mosquitoe nets, other condiments and seasoning.
“I want to appeal to all and sundry not to panic, but to continue Pray Allah (God) restore peace in our land”.
Satomi stated. He also commended fearless efforts of the people in the affected communities for repelling the attacks, without which the destruction by the insurgents would have been worse than expected.
Although, the SEMA Chairman was economical on number of casualty (s) in the recent attacks and sacking of Borno villages, sources and residents of the affected areas said no fewer than dozen people including women and children were killed in the renewed onslaught by insurgents.
Sources revealed that the terrorists who attacked the 32 communities and settlements were armed with AK47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) leading to killings of unspecified number of people, with destruction of houses and crops on farmlands.
