Rivers State Police Command has successfully located and retrieved the corpse of Gift Okpara, alias 2baba, a notorious Iceland cult leader.
The operation, conducted in Ebrass, Ahoada West, Rivers State, marks a pivotal moment in the quest for justice following the murder of former DPO Ahaoda Division, late SP. Bako Angbashim.
The Rivers State Police Command revealed that the successful operation was a result of credible intelligence, which led them to a shallow grave where 2baba’s body was buried. Gift Okpara, alias 2baba, was notorious for his involvement in criminal activities, including the brutal murder of SP Bako Angbashim on September 8, 2023, in Odumude community, Ahaoda East Local Government Area.
Communist of Police Rivers state, CP Olatunji Disu speaking at a press briefing, acknowledged the invaluable support of the Nigerian Airforce, whose aerial strike on 2baba’s camp on February 10 facilitated subsequent operations. She also extended gratitude to Governor Sir Siminalayi Fabura, GSSRS, for his unwavering support throughout the operation.
The operation showcased the dedication and resilience of the Rivers State Police Command, with CP Disu commending the officers involved for their extraordinary efforts. He emphasized that the drive for success came from the expectations set by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, who sought to bring 2baba and his gang to justice.
Furthermore, the commisioner of Police highlighted the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public in combating crime. He urged citizens to continue providing timely and accurate information to aid in identifying and apprehending criminals.
Disu reassured the residents of Rivers State of the Police Command’s commitment to their safety and security. He pledged continued efforts to apprehend other members of 2baba’s gang and dismantle any remaining criminal networks, calling on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
The successful retrieval of 2baba’s body represents a significant milestone in the fight against crime in Rivers State. With the commitment of law enforcement agencies and the support of the public, efforts to maintain peace and security in the region remain steadfast.
