On Monday, the Nigerian government said that consumers who did not receive 20 hours of energy would not be charged the increased rate.
Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, made this claim during a one-day investigative hearing on the necessity of stopping the implementation of increased power tariffs before the Senate Committee on Power.
He emphasized that the difficulties were short-lived and stated that the federal government has implemented a new strategy to rescue the electricity industry.
The explanation is provided as Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, or NERC, pricing increases have left electricity users reeling.
The minister added that if the rate was not changed, the Federal Government would reimburse N2.9 trillion for electricity subsidies this year.
He said that the government had implemented the new policy in order to save the electricity industry.
