On Wednesday, Nnamdi Kanu, the beleaguered leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, declared that he is fighting for freedom and that he does not want anyone to perish.
During the sit-in on May 30, Kanu made the claim while denouncing the deaths of troops in the Aba region of Abia State.
During the sit-at-home order, a group of unidentified gunmen attacked a military roadblock at Obikabia intersection, killing five soldiers and setting two patrol vehicles on fire.
In response, the leader of IPOB declared such widow-creation initiatives are unacceptable in the Southeast.
Kanu made the following remarks at the Abuja Federal High Court: “Some of these soldiers are our people and their families are now in mourning. All the making of young widows is condemned in its entirety.
“I don’t want anybody to die, we are fighting for freedom; we want people to be free. We have suffered a lot in Africa, from slavery in Arabia to Europe and America. I think we should focus our time to ensure that this continent stands up to what God promised.”
