N70,000 Minimum Wage: Abia State Government Set to Begin Payment in October

Beginning in October 2024, Abia State civil servants will be paid the new national minimum salary of N70,000.

Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, informed reporters of the results of this week’s State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti, at Government House Umuahia on Tuesday.

Additionally, Kanu declared that nine new roads in Abia State have been authorized for building and restoration, with the projects being distributed among the three senatorial zones.

He also mentioned the completion of two road projects in Umuahia, namely Ikarike Street and Afara-Isi Court.

Isuikwuato and Arochukwu abattoirs would also be cleaned up, the commissioner added, adding that the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has taken decisive action to disinfect Lokpanta Market and its abattoir.

He claimed that the three slaughterhouses were sanitized to prevent disease among the Abia people.

The commissioner further said that in order to give Umuahia and Aba a cleaner appearance, the mounds of trash that were existent before the current administration took office have been cleared out.

“The governor has agreed to pay the minimum wage of N70,000,” stated Sunny Onwuma, Abia State Commissioner for Labor and Productivity, in reference to the new minimum wage. Step 1 of Grade Level 1: N70,000
