The People’s Democratic Party, or PDP, in Anambra elected Mr. Chidi Chidebe as its chairman on Thursday after a congress at the Women Development Center in Awka.
Amechi Onowu received 960 votes, but Chidebe, a former PDP Youth Leader in Anambra, received 1,080 votes overall.
Mr. Ebele Onunkwo was chosen as the party’s secretary, while Charles Anierobi was chosen as its deputy chairman.
The Anambra PDP Congress Committee’s chairman, Ifeanyi Ossai, the deputy governor of Enugu State, encouraged the incoming chairman to rebuild, restore, and bring all of the state’s resentful party members together.
Ossai urged the new leadership to collaborate with those who ran but lost, stating that Anambra was essential to the party and that victory could only be attained when all members were united under one roof.
“Last week, when we failed to conduct the congress, I assured PDP members in Anambra that it would be free, fair, and transparent. I am happy that this came to fruition,” he said.
