Former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung predicts that Chief Afe Babalola, an elder statesman and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, may lose his defamation lawsuit against activist attorney Dele Farotimi.

Recall that Afe Babalola claimed that the information in Farotimi’s 104-page book, “Nigeria and its Criminal Justice,” defamed him.

Farotimi was arrested in Lagos State after the elder statesman petitioned the Ekiti State Police Command.

According to the petitioner, the lately popular book can be read anywhere in the world, even in his home state of Ekiti State, harming his reputation.

Popular Nigerian activist Farotimi was later charged in an Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court.

During his Sunday appearance on the Mic On Podcast, the former Minister discussed the issue and stated that Afe Babalola ought to have disregarded the case.

In his opinion, “Afe Babalols should have not taken this route. He has exposed his legacies to public attacks and I don’t see him surviving it.

“Dele Farotimi is a reputable human rights activist. His profile is highly revered by most Nigerians so they will never understand his claim of defamation.

“If I were to advise him, I would have asked him to just call Dele and say, “look, my son, this is not the way to go, you will also get to where I am today”.

“You see, he has condescended and it is now him and his family versus Nigerians. I don’t see him ending as a victor”.
