Because of his opposition to the proposed Tax Reform Bills, Senator Ali Ndume of the Borno South Senatorial District has received backing from the Coalition of Northern Groups, or CNG.

During a courtesy call with Senator Ndume, CNG National Coordinator Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi pledged the organization’s support for the lawmaker’s attempts to oppose the contentious laws.

“CNG is actively engaging with citizens across Northern Nigeria through town hall meetings to raise awareness about the bills,” Charanchi added, adding that the purpose of the tour was to share ideas on effective methods to fight the changes at all levels.

He said, “the goal is to empower constituents to reach out to their representatives and demand that they reject the proposed reforms.”

He went on to say that they would keep using every democratic tool at their disposal to make sure the measures, which he says endanger the livelihood of millions of people, are rejected completely.

He took the opportunity to urge Northern members to stay loyal to their voters and reject the proposals, claiming they were ill-timed and a means of satisfying demands from outside parties, like the World Bank.

Charanchi clarified that some Northern lawmakers have backed off while others are vying for the president, emphasizing that this could cause them to back the unpopular laws in order to further their own reputations as despicable and malevolent political robbers.

He issued a warning, saying that senators and representatives in the house who disregard the needs of their voters will be viewed as the people’s enemies and will be promptly and decisively exterminated and buried.

He also issued a warning to any Northern legislator who backs the “oppressive Tax Reform Bills,” stating that their treachery will not go unpunished because they had committed to enslaving the people who gave them their mandate.

According to the Coordinator, Northern members should never forget that they are in the National Assembly to represent their people’ interests, not to support policies that are imposed by outside parties like the World Bank or any ethnic supremacist.

”Stand with the people, or face the consequences of their rejection”.

“Any legislator who disregards the interests of his constituents by endorsing the bills will be viewed as a dangerous outcast deserving of our collective censure and opprobrium,” Charanchi explained, adding that such heinous, mischievous, and reckless rascality by legislators, especially those from the North, is an outright insult to the collective interest and dignity of the regions that we are determined to go to any length to preserve and jealously guarded.”
