Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has praised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for appointing young Nigerians to key positions in its National Working Committee (NWC), calling it a powerful example of youth inclusion in national politics.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Atiku stated:

“Indeed, the future of our youth must not be shaped in their absence… I commend the ADC for setting a powerful example by giving them a seat at the table where decisions are made.”

Youth appointees to ADC’s NWC include:

  • Bilyaminu Duhu – Assistant National Youth Leader (North East)
  • Jackie Wayas (@JWEZEE) – Deputy National Publicity Secretary
  • Hassana Dada – Assistant National Youth Leader (North Central)
  • David Itokpa (@iamhistory\_) – Deputy National Welfare Secretary
  • Hauwa Yusuf (@itz\_hawee) – Deputy National Secretary

Why it matters:

Atiku’s endorsement of ADC’s appointments reflects a growing demand for generational shift and youth empowerment in Nigerian politics. By elevating young voices to its leadership, ADC appears to be positioning itself as a reformist party amid mounting frustration among Nigerian youth over exclusion from governance.

The bigger picture:

While the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) have often been accused of sidelining youth in critical roles, ADC’s move is being lauded as a concrete step toward inclusive politics. Atiku’s support could also signal a broader push within the opposition to connect with younger demographics ahead of future elections.
