The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has laid out the final conditions necessary for peace to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike made it clear that the South-South zonal congress of the party must be recognised and upheld for any reconciliation to take place.

He stressed that the congress, which was held in Calabar, had been sanctioned by the court and produced Chief Daniel Orbi as the National Vice Chairman for the South-South zone.

“Our South-South zonal congress that was held must be upheld. There’s no doubt, no two words about it,” Wike said.

He also criticised the PDP leadership, particularly the Acting National Chairman, for previously suggesting that the party’s governors were not in support of the congress.

“When we were doing our South-South congress, the Acting National Chairman claimed that the PDP governors were not in support… Where are the PDP governors now?” he asked.

Wike reiterated that the congress was legitimate and that any move to challenge it would be resisted, suggesting that the peace process within the PDP hinges on full recognition of its outcome.
