The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has said the party has grown stronger, more united, and more focused following the recent defection of some of its former members to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Forum’s Director General, Emmanuel Agbo, the governors noted that the departure of those members had brought renewed peace and stability to the PDP, describing it as a turning point that strengthened the party’s resolve.
The Forum compared the actions of the defectors to the Biblical parable of the prodigal son, noting that while some had launched “irresponsible verbal attacks” after leaving, the PDP remains open to welcoming back any who return in sincerity and remorse.
“Since their exit, the PDP has become much more formidable and focused, with a clear determination to keep our eyes on the ball,” the statement read.
The governors stressed that the ADC coalition, which many defectors joined, had been a distraction, adding that its sense of entitlement had hindered efforts at national unity and harmony.
They further reaffirmed their commitment to tackling Nigeria’s pressing security challenges, which they said remain a top priority in their agenda and resolutions.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former lawmaker Dino Melaye, and others recently left the PDP to join the ADC, which has become the political platform of the opposition coalition.
