The Chief Executive Officer of TAF Africa, Jake Epelle, has condemned the recently concluded local government election in Rivers State, describing the exercise as a “democratic scam” and “totally unconstitutional.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s programme, The Morning Brief, on Monday, Epelle criticised the process, arguing that it was illegitimate despite being conducted under a democratically elected government.
“What played out in Rivers State on Saturday can only be described as unprecedented political manoeuvring — a sham and what looks like a democratic scam,” he said. “Everything about this election was totally illegal and unconstitutional.”
Epelle added that while the people of Rivers are politically conscious and civilised, the process amounted to a disrespect of their rights. He urged youths in the state not to be provoked into unrest, warning that such reactions could play into the hands of political actors.
“It is absolutely a slap on the people of Rivers State, and we cannot continue the way we are going,” he concluded.
