Former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, on Wednesday, appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Kyari, who arrived at the agency’s headquarters around 2:15 p.m., was invited to clarify financial and technical issues linked to his tenure at the state-owned oil company.

The development follows an ongoing EFCC investigation into the controversial $7.2 billion refineries’ turnaround maintenance project. Kyari had earlier been placed on the commission’s watch list as part of the probe.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja recently ordered the temporary freezing of four bank accounts linked to the former NNPCL boss over allegations of fraud.
