Mao Ohuabunwa has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party faction aligned with Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike. Isah Dansidi has been named Secretary of the board, replacing Adolphus Wabara and Ahmed Makarfi.
The appointments were made during the faction’s inauguration event in Abuja on Friday, led by Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.
A communique issued after the session stated that Wabara and Makarfi could no longer occupy their positions due to their public stance in the ongoing internal crisis. The document cited the need to protect the board’s neutrality and moral standing.
Parts of the communique signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi read, “The Board noted that the immediate past BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, having publicly taken positions in the ongoing intra party crisis, can no longer continue to serve in their previous capacities in order to preserve the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority of the BoT.
“Accordingly, the Board unanimously approved the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who, like Senator Adolphus Wabara, hails from the South, and Hon. Isah Dansidi, who, like Senator Ahmed Makarfi hails from the North, as the Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted Board of Trustees respectively.”
The BoT acknowledged the contributions of the former officers and conveyed good wishes for their future efforts.
It also commended party members for their loyalty amid recent disagreements and encouraged continued unity and maturity. The board reaffirmed its commitment to reconciliation, internal democracy, transparency, and respect for institutional processes.
“The Board affirms that only through adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act, the INEC Guidelines, the Party’s Constitution, and mutual respect can the PDP continue to serve as the true custodiart of Nigeria’s democratic ideals,” the communique stated.
