The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress has criticised former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi after he urged Nigerians to mobilise ahead of the 2027 election, saying President Bola Tinubu can be defeated.

In a statement on Wednesday, the party’s spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, dismissed Amaechi’s remarks as a “political hallucination,” arguing that he lacks the influence to lead any national movement.

Oladejo questioned Amaechi’s political relevance, stating that someone who has been “rejected at home” cannot spearhead a revolt against Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He said, “Amaechi is free to dream, but he must stop mistaking his nightmares for national reality. Amaechi is a political orphan – disowned in Rivers, irrelevant nationally, and steadily sinking into total political oblivion.”

According to him, the former minister no longer commands support in Rivers State and has lost political structures and followers.

“In Rivers today, mentioning Amaechi’s name in political discussions is viewed as a provocative joke,” he added. “Mobilise who? The few loyalists left in his WhatsApp group? Politicians who abandoned him after he lost the primaries?”

Oladejo concluded that “you cannot lead a national movement when your own backyard has padlocked the gate against you.”

The exchange adds to heightened political rhetoric as discussions build toward the 2027 election cycle.
