The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has intensified preparations for its 2025 National Elective Convention, scheduled to take place on November 15 and 16 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State, despite opposition from the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday, the party described the convention, tagged #Ibadan2025, as a defining moment in its quest for internal renewal and readiness for the 2027 general elections.
According to the PDP, more than 3,000 delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to attend, alongside party leaders, key stakeholders, and international observers, including members of the diplomatic corps.
The event will include the election of new national officers, including a National Chairman, as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s unity, discipline, and democratic values.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who is hosting the convention, has reportedly led multiple venue inspections and logistics reviews to ensure a seamless event. The Lekan Salami Stadium is being transformed into what the party called “a hub for democratic renewal.”
Final preparations are underway, including seating arrangements, stage design, lighting, and audio-visual installations, supervised by Oyo State Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal, who chairs the Venue Sub-Committee of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC).
The party stated, “Final preparations are in full swing as the stage is set for the Peoples Democratic Party’s transformative 2025 National Elective Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.”
