Businessman and community advocate, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the ongoing detention and sentencing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, warning that the situation is deepening fear and hopelessness across the South East.

In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, Anyaso said the matter has gone beyond political debates and now reflects the widespread pain and frustration felt by many Igbo youths and families.

“As a young man from the South East, I tried to stay quiet on this issue—not out of fear or weakness—but because I believed anger alone cannot solve anything,” he said. “But today, my heart is heavy. What is happening to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has become a symbol of the hurt and abandonment my people feel.”

Anyaso warned that the prolonged detention is fueling tension and insecurity in the region.

“Mr President, with utmost respect, the South East is bleeding. Our youths are losing hope. Families are living in fear. The longer this drags on, the deeper the insecurity grows, and nobody wins,” he stressed.

He called for fairness, understanding, and a political solution capable of restoring calm and confidence among the populace.

“We are not asking for special treatment,” he noted. “We are asking for justice, for fairness, and for a solution that gives our young people room to breathe again.”

Anyaso added that his decision to speak out is driven by love for both his people and the nation.

“Peace in the South East is possible, but justice must lead the way,” he concluded, praying for God’s guidance for Nigeria’s leaders.
