Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition-backed party he is expected to align with ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku made the announcement on Monday via his X handle, sharing a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the caption: “It’s official.”

His decision comes after his July resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has been engulfed in prolonged internal crises.

The move formalises Atiku’s affiliation with the coalition party he endorsed in July—one positioned as a united platform for opposition figures such as Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Before now, Atiku and other key opposition leaders had delayed officially registering with the ADC.

The coalition unveiled the ADC earlier as its platform for the 2027 general election, with former Senate President David Mark named National Chairman, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola appointed National Secretary, and former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi serving as National Publicity Secretary.
