President Bola Tinubu has put forward the name of retired Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, as the new Minister of Defence.
The President announced the nomination in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following the resignation of former Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru on Monday.
Musa, who served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until October 2025, is a recipient of the 2012 Colin Powell Award for Soldiering.
Born in Sokoto in 1967, he completed his primary and secondary schooling in the state before attending the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria. He later joined the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1986 and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
