The Lagos State Police Command has arrested thirteen people linked to the mob assault on a police inspector seen being beaten in a viral video.

In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, dismissed online claims that the officer was caught stealing, describing those reports as false and sensational.

According to the police, the attacked officer is an Inspector with the Lagos State Taskforce and was part of an enforcement operation on Brown Street, Oshodi, targeting indiscriminate parking. Trouble began when he flagged down a driver who allegedly became violent.

During the confrontation, the officer accidentally fired shots into the ground, and fragments reportedly injured some bystanders. The incident sparked the mob attack captured in the trending video, leaving the inspector badly injured.

Adebisi confirmed that 13 suspects identified from the footage have been arrested and will face prosecution after investigations. Those arrested include: Dele Oriade (39), Adekunle Olalere (40), Mudashiru Olamilekan (28), Anayo Achusie (34), Joshua Enwonyin (24), Okoro Okechukwu (26), Rilwan Lateef (32), Damilare Odebode (22), Haruna Aleshi (25), Sodiq Omoniyi (26), Chukwudi Patience (25), Godstime Okafor (26), and Chinedu Divine (29).

The officer involved has also been placed under disciplinary review for unprofessional conduct during the incident.

Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the attack and warned that assaulting officers on lawful duty is a criminal offence. The Command urged residents to avoid spreading false claims and support efforts to maintain order.
