Former Plateau State Governor and Senator Jonah Jang has dismissed reports suggesting that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to either the African Democratic Congress or the Social Democratic Party.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, Jang described the reports as “fake” and reaffirmed his continued membership of the PDP, a party he noted he helped to establish.
The statement stressed that the former governor remains committed to the PDP despite its current internal challenges.
“While the former governor would have ordinarily dismissed the so called news item as yet another attempt by mischief makers, it is imperative to state that, as a founding member of the PDP, Senator Jang remains in the party of pride of the Nigerian people the PDP.
“Even though the PDP is going through turbulent times, it is his firm belief that the numerous ongoing court cases will bring an end to the various crises in the PDP and return it to the pinnacle of Nigerian politics.
“Distinguished Senator Jang strongly believes that the PDP will put its past behind it and reclaim its pride of place,” the statement said.
Jang’s clarification comes amid growing speculation over political realignments ahead of future electoral contests, with several high profile politicians reportedly weighing their options across party lines.
