Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has identified the standout performers from Nigeria’s emphatic 4 0 victory over Mozambique on Monday night at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

While Ighalo acknowledged Ademola Lookman as one of the most impressive players of the tournament so far, he singled out Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi as the best performer in the match against Mozambique.

Lookman has been directly involved in seven goals, more than any other player at the tournament. Alongside Morocco’s Brahim Díaz and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, the Atalanta forward has scored in every match he has played at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Atalanta winger has also won two Player of the Match awards during the competition. He claimed his most recent award after Nigeria’s dominant win over Mozambique, a game in which he scored one goal and created two scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Speaking as a pundit on SuperSport, the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer said Lookman has consistently been one of Nigeria’s top performers since switching his international allegiance to the three time African champions.

Ighalo said Lookman’s movement and positioning make him a constant threat.

“I like the way he positions himself when the ball is on his side,” Ighalo said.

“If he’s not running along the wing to pass the ball, he’s always in the box and near the goal.

“When the opportunity comes, he always grabs it, and that’s one thing I really like about him. He’s one of the best players on that team.”

Despite his praise for Lookman, Ighalo said Alex Iwobi was the standout performer in the Mozambique match, crediting the midfielder’s influence in the center of the pitch.

Iwobi recorded three secondary assists in the game.

“Today I give it to Alex Iwobi because he engineered the midfield,” he said.

The Super Eagles will face Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals on Saturday.
