Former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, has openly declared his support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the escalating political crisis in the state, affirming that Fubara remains the political leader of Rivers State.

Speaking at a public event in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Odili reassured the governor that the people of Rivers State are firmly behind him, urging him to remain resolute despite mounting political pressure.

According to Odili, the collective will of Rivers people is clearly aligned with Governor Fubara’s leadership.

“Your people are with you, and they have asked me to tell you that you are the political leader of Rivers State,” Odili said.
“Rivers people said that wherever you go, we will go with you. Wherever you stand, we will stand with you. You are standing on firm ground. Stand there and hold on to God.”

Odili’s endorsement comes against the backdrop of renewed political tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The rivalry has fueled instability in the state, including legislative confrontations and impeachment threats.

Political observers view Odili’s intervention as significant, given his stature and long-standing influence in Rivers politics. His statement is widely interpreted as a morale boost for Fubara and a signal that key political elders remain aligned with the governor as the crisis deepens.

The development further underscores the growing polarization within Rivers State’s political landscape, as power blocs reposition ahead of future political contests.
