The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has stated that it remains open to welcoming former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party NNPP Rabi’u Kwankwaso into its fold.
The National Chairman of the party Professor Nentawe Yilwatda made this known on Sunday during an interview on Trust TV.
“Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to join the APC. If he comes, he’s mostly welcome. Though we are not yet in negotiation with him yet,” he said.
The statement follows the recent defection of the only NNPP governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State who officially joined the APC last Friday alongside members of the Kano State House of Assembly.
Meanwhile Kwankwaso has expressed surprise over Yusuf’s defection, noting that he played a key role in Yusuf’s emergence as governor in the 2023 elections.
“Frankly, it came as a big shock, not just to me, but to many Nigerians. To be honest, even now, it still feels unreal. Sometimes I lie down and feel like it was all a dream. The way the whole thing happened left many people confused,” Kwankwaso said.
The development has continued to fuel political debate as parties reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
