Onyeocha N’Aba, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, Thanks Governor Uzodimma for Posthumous GSSI Award to His Uncle, Former Imo State Governor, Commodore Amadi Ikwechegh

The Member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, has expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for the posthumous conferment of the Grand Service Star of Imo State (GSSI) on his late uncle, Commodore Amadi Guy Ikwechegh, a former Military Governor of Imo State.

The honour was bestowed during the Imo State 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee, where the late Commodore Ikwechegh was recognised for his contributions to the development and administration of Imo State during his tenure from 1986 to 1989. The Ikwechegh family was also conferred with Honorary State Citizenship in recognition of their enduring legacy of service to the state.

Speaking after receiving the award on behalf of the family, Hon. Ikwechegh described the gesture as a deeply personal and historic moment, noting that it went beyond ceremonial recognition to affirm a lifetime of selfless service and leadership.

He noted that the late Commodore Ikwechegh was a distinguished naval officer and administrator whose public service record spanned strategic military commands and high-level academic training, including at the Nigerian Defence Academy and Dartmouth College, before his appointment as Military Governor of Imo State.

According to the federal lawmaker, the posthumous honour reflects the commitment of the Uzodimma administration to preserving the history of Imo State and recognising the contributions of past leaders who laid the foundations for its growth.

Hon. Ikwechegh further commended the Imo State @ 50 Star Honours Initiative, describing it as a thoughtful platform for institutionalising remembrance and celebrating excellence in public service.

“As a public office holder, and currently the only member of my family serving in government, this recognition strengthens my resolve to uphold the values of service, integrity, and accountability which my late uncle embodied,” he said.

The Aba North/South lawmaker thanked the Government and people of Imo State for the honour, stressing that the recognition was not only for a former governor, but for a statesman whose legacy continues to inspire future generations.
